New Winch Motor Bests Bognor Shingle
01 Oct 2006
When the Bognor Regis Yacht Club in the UK had to renew the geared motor on their rescue boat winch, they looked on the internet and found Bedford based Lenze Ltd.
The most critical concern for the Yacht Club was to purchase a motor which would be able to withstand the harsh outdoor conditions along the south coast, where equipment is subject to wind, rain, sand, sea and salt.
The challenge for Lenze was to specify a geared motor suitable for dragging a rescue boat up over the shingle beach at Bognor Regis. A two stage helical gearbox was chosen as a compact, economic and readily available solution with a high efficiency rating of over 96%.
With output torque rated at 617Nm, the 5.5kW Lenze GST07 helical geared motor was selected for the job. A 230V anti-condensation heater was fitted in the motor and the unit was epoxy painted to enhance weatherproofing.
The gearbox assembly was supplied before the start of the busy summer season. Bognor Regis Yacht Club has expressed its satisfaction, writing to Lenze, ‘The motor gearbox assembly we purchased from you earlier this year is working beautifully and doing a magnificent job. It now pulls our large rescue boat up over the Bognor shingle with relentless ease.’
