Winch Drum Ropes Make Debut
16 Oct 2006
Marine rope and rigging supplier Cosalt Safety & Protection has introduced a tough new range of commercial marine mooring ropes designed specifically for use on winch drums. The Winchline range combines high strength with low weight, ease of handling, and resistance to wear and tear.
Winchflex is a synthetic rope suitable for use as a ship’s mooring line. The six strand construction provides a flexibility to work well on standard and split winch drums. It has six outer strands internally supported by a left lay three strand nylon core. This ensures good handling characteristics but minimises bedding tendencies on winch drums. Winchflex’s strength, weight and elongation profile make it a suitable replacement for wire or all polyester mooring lines.
An alternative to Winchflex, especially for applications where it is important for the line to float, is Cosalt’s new Nuflex Winchfloat rope. Also delivering excellent mooring line performance, its braided outer jacket can be produced from either Nuflex or Nutech yarns. The rope is then constructed to around a buoyant 12 strand Nutech core. Both specifications offer good handling characteristics on winch drums combined with excellent diameter to strength ratios.
Other products in the Winchline range include ropes with either a 12 strand nylon or as 12 strand polyester core for extra long service life and added durability. if required Cosalt can also manufacture bespoke versions on request. Customers can specify rope diameter, jacket construction and yarn colours. Cosalt's network across the UK is accredited to ISO 9001 (2000) and the IACS Z17 certification for service suppliers.
