Dutch Maritime Awards Gala Due
01 Oct 2006
The Award was initiated to show the innovative power of marine industries to the wider public and to stimulate developments within the maritime cluster. Presentation of the overall winner will be made by Mrs Karien van Gennip, Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade.
The three nominees include the Promac Aquaset Type S by Promac BV, a drinking water production system for use on board inland ships. Working with all types of water, the complete and compact installation saves on water bunkering and thus benefits vessel freedom in design and additional paid load on board.
The EPS Thruster by Van der Velden Marine Systems is an innovative development made of synthetic fibre. Developed within a consortium of companies, it does not make use of a central shaft and has no gears or propeller shaft. The blades are connected to an outer ring. The low weight thruster has an extremely low noise level and is unobtrusive in use. While its potential market is large, initial applications are focussed on high end mega yachts.
The dredging contingent at the ceremony will be pulling for the T-Cutter third generation rock cutting system for cutter suction dredgers developed by Vosta LMG BV. The system consists of quick-change locking cutter teeth and adaptors fitted to the cutter head, which has lowered changeover time and enhanced safety for the changeover crew. Men are no longer required to swing at worn teeth with sledgehammers and the reduced downtime translates directly to enhanced production and profitability.
The Marine Innovation Award ceremony combines with those of other organisations. KNVTS will present its Ship of the Year Award.
