A Busy Time for ABR with ITS 2008, ‘Tugnology’ and Publications
01 Oct 2006
It is an extremely a busy time for the ABR Company Ltd, organisers of the well know ITS conventions, publishers of International Tug & Salvage magazine and the annual Tugworld Review. The next convention ITS2008, originally expected to be held in Hong Kong, has now had to be rescheduled for Singapore due to a problem with suitable dates at the Hong Kong Convention Centre.
Singapore is an attractive venue for such an event with a massive inherent towage and salvage community. This 20th biannual ITS Convention will be held on 19-23 May 2008 at the Sun Tec Convention and Exhibition Centre. Also on offer will be convenient five star accommodation almost onsite with a wide range of prices.
More immediate is the welcome introduction of an event planned for the intervening years laid on to meet ‘customer demand’. To be known as ‘Tugnology 07’ the first of these two day events will be held in Southampton at the popular De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel on 11 and 12 June 2007. Billed as a ‘no frills’ conference, the event is designed to provide a forum for all those involved in the design, construction and operation of tugs and their propulsion systems and equipment. ‘Tugnology’ will overlap the nearby ‘Seawork’ exhibition by one day giving delegates and visitors a convenient opportunity to attend both events.
A book of printed papers resulting from ITS2006 in Rotterdam is now available from the ABR Company. As usual this hardback, nicely produced book includes not only the complete set of conference papers and transcripts of the resulting discussions but also a comprehensive illustrated record of the entire convention. All 27 papers are documented, with subjects as diverse as the implications of criminalisation in the salvage industry to the complexities of tandem towing. The ITS book of papers is a volume that has graced the bookshelves of designers, tug builders, propulsion experts and operators since the inception of the ITS conventions. The bound papers continue to grow in stature and quality.
Also on the horizon is the 16th annual edition of The Tug World Review (2004-2005). This review is another regular addition to bookshelves within the towage business. Contained within the next edition, due for publication this month, are examples of new vessels completed for the industry during the year 2004-2005. Those examples range from small work vessels to the very latest in ocean going tugs and vessels for use offshore.
