SSAS and SVDR Security Upgrade for Dredger Fleet
01 Sep 2006
Somerset UK based Atlantas Marine has been supplying the Satamatics Ocean Alert SSAS (Ship Security Alert System) for both UK and international fleets during the last two years, during which time it has equipped over 400 vessels with a package mandated by the IMO's ISPS Code for ships over 500gt. SSAS is capable of discreetly raising the alarm to relevant authorities and tracking the vessel if its security is compromised.
In its most recent success, Atlantas Marine has delivered Ocean Alert SSAS to the dredger fleet of United Marine Aggregates. Following on from that order, Atlantas was asked to supply the new Maris SVDR (Simplified Voyage Data Recorder) combined with ECDIS to the UMA vessels.
Atlantas are the only distributor in the UK to offer the Maris SVDR, developed last year to meet new legislative demands for fitting the technology to existing vessels. With an ongoing focus for fleet managers on reducing costs, the new SVDR combi ECDIS offers installation and operational cost benefits. ECDIS can be fitted to the bridge with SVDR or easily upgraded at a future date.
With an increasing move towards paperless charts in the next five years, Maris has recently introduced email updates to its electronic charts that allow quick and precise information to be relayed to the ship's captain whilst sailing, preventing costly delays in ports and thus increasing fleet efficiency and profitability.
UMA installed the Ocean Alert system themselves on their four vessels, further reducing costs, and have chosen the three year airtime package with one daily position report sent from each vessel. Atlantas Marine approved engineers installed the SVDR200 combi ECDIS on board the UMA vessels.
