    Eye in the Sky for Oil Spill Control

    The use of satellite imagery to manage oil spills at sea is set to improve due to the award of a 5m baseline services contract to the MARCOAST consortium by the European Space Agency (ESA). 

    Vikoma Pollution Control and Recovery Kit for Kenya

    Southampton UK based oil pollution control and recovery equipment manufacturer Vikoma International Ltd has signed a $500,000 contract to supply equipment and specialised oil spill response training to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), which will use it for offshore, harbour and coastal protection. 

    Marine Pollution Prevention Campaign Conducted

    The 22 maritime authorities of Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control, which includes EU members plus Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Norway, and the Russian Federation, have conducted a concentrated inspection campaign focussing on how requirements for preventing marine pollution from ships (MARPOL73/78, Annex 1) have been implemented. The three month inspection campaign ended earlier this year.
