Vikoma Pollution Control and Recovery Kit for Kenya
01 Sep 2006
Southampton UK based oil pollution control and recovery equipment manufacturer Vikoma International Ltd has signed a $500,000 contract to supply equipment and specialised oil spill response training to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), which will use it for offshore, harbour and coastal protection.
The purchase will enable KPA to upgrade their response capability from Tier 1 to Tier 2, with the ability to handle spills of more than 5,000 tons.
The package includes dispersant sprays, offshore and harbour containment boom, skimmer system, storage tanks and cranes.
The contract also incorporates a comprehensive training programme which Vikoma is carrying out in Kenya this month for 20 KPA employees on the use of the equipment and response techniques. Once the equipment has been delivered and the training completed, KPA believes that Kenya will be the regional leader in its ability to deal with oil spill situations.
