    The Orkney Islands Council Harbours Authority has enhanced its standard of marine service by sending employees on a comprehensive training course at South Tyneside College.

    Marine fire safety specialist Tyco will be at SMM 2006 showcasing its line-up of fire suppression brands and solutions designed specifically for shipboard applications. 

    Training for Effective ISPS Auditing

    The comprehensive security regime for international shipping adopted by the IMO in December 2002 includes a number of amendments to SOLAS, the most far reaching of which enshrine the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, which contains detailed security related requirements for Governments, port authorities and shipping companies. 

    Lone Worker Protection Progress

    The Land & Water Group, a specialist marine civil engineering contractor, employs over a hundred people, many of whom work alone on sites around the UK which are on or near watercourses. Three years ago it developed (in house) a lone worker system which, if submerged in water, would send out an audible alarm and three text messages to pre-programmed destinations. 

    Belgians Collaborate for Ostend MRCC

    The new Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Ostend was officially opened last month, providing a first point of contact for accidents at sea along the Belgian coast.
