BP and Shell Rig Moving Contracts for NCS Survey

Positioning and subsea specialists NCS Survey in Aberdeen, which claims to be Scotland’s largest independent survey contractor after only being in business for 18 months, has secured major rig moving contracts from both BP and Shell Exploration & Production.

The BP contract, said by NCS managing director Andy Gray to be worth up to £2m, involves provision of positioning services for rig moves in North Sea and Atlantic offshore sectors. Similar services are also to be provided for Shell Expro’s rigs in support of the oil company’s Dutch, Irish, Norwegian and UK operations. NCS’s Norwegian partner, iSurvey, is being retained as sub-contractor as part of the three year contract.

Andy Gray attributes his company’s rapid growth in part to particularly strong investment in a dedicated graduate training programme supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Scottish Enterprise Grampian. With partner concerns in Norway and the US adding up to worldwide availability of more than 80 specialist staff, further expansion is planned over the next six months following a recent move to new purpose built premises in Westhill.
