Swedes Meet Needs for Multibeam

Gothenburg based seafloor and sub bottom mapping specialist Marin Mätteknik AB (MMT AB) are to have their survey vessel M/V Franklin fitted with a gondola mounted EM 710 multibeam echo sounder, with delivery from Kongsberg Maritime early this year. The order follows two contracts for EM 3002 dual head systems fitted to the survey vessels M/V Triad and Ping during 2006

The EM 710 multibeam echo sounder is a high resolution seabed mapping system capable of meeting all relevant survey standards. The mounted system will be capable of seafloor mapping down to 2,000m and allows a choice of beam widths and transmission modes. The system can generate 800 soundings per ping with a frequency of 70-100 kHz.

MMT AB has also placed an order for an Applanix POS MV system to provide accurate attitude, heading, heave, position and velocity data for the multibeam system. The system represents the latest in inertial GPS technology, enabling adherence to International Hydrographic Survey standards
