Foundations Expand for Wind Farm Installer

The addition to A2SEA’s existing fleet of two vessels means the company can now install the foundations as well as the topsides and larger turbines for offshore wind farms. A2SEA will now have the flexibility to bid for more offshore contracts using their vessels separately or in combination. Mammoet Van Oord will charter the Jumping Jack from A2SEA to complete their existing contracts.
Together with the acquisition of the Jumping Jack, the parties have agreed that A2SEA will be supported by Mammoet Van Oord to allow for a seamless transfer of competences. A2SEA is working on several contracting possibilities for the vessel, which will enable the company to employ key personnel and secure know how related to the operations carried out by Mammoet Van Oord over the last five years. A2SEA’s turnover is estimated to triple over the next five years, reaching DKK 300m by 2008.
A2SEA CEO Kaj Lindvig said, ‘The acquisition allows us to broaden the range of services we can offer, including better coverage on the UK west coast where activity levels are increasing.’
The company’s order book at the start of 2007 shows its two existing vessels booked for 17 out of the next 24 months. ‘Sea Power’ is assisting Phil/Hochtief on Horns Rev for five months and from August ill install 48 Siemens 2.3MW turbines on the Lillgrund project in Oresund. ‘Sea Energy’ will install 60 turbines in Holland on the Q7 project for Vestas.
