X-Ray Specs Enhance Port Security
30 Jul 2008
The requirement for rapidly deployable and portable x-ray systems that can be used in public places such ports, airports, railways and underground stations has grown substantially in the last year.
Leicestershire UK based 3DX-Ray has launched an advanced, TPXi x-ray system for bomb threat detection. The TPXi system is designed especially for bomb and threat detection. The source weighs just 6.5kg and the detector 8kg, making it easy to transport even for security personnel wearing heavy protection clothing. It has a high image quality and a large detection area of 54cm by 41cm. It can be in place by a suspect package and checking its content within minutes of discovery. TPXi is already used by police authorities in locales ranging from London to Singapore.
The detector is just 5cm thick, which means it can slip into narrow gaps behind suspect packages. Previously the simple trick of placing a package near a wall would foil x-ray systems.
The system uses WiFi communications, allowing the operator to retire to a safe distance whilst still controlling the equipment and viewing the resultant x-ray images.
