International private equity and funds manager 3i has agreed to buy Dutch marine heavy lift operators Dockwise Transport BV from Dutch offshore services company Heerema Group and Norwegian maritime group Wilh. Wilhelmsen in a deal valued at over $700m.

Osprey’s Innovation Expedites Crane Delivery

Southampton UK based specialist project managers and marine engineers Osprey Shipping have been employed by crane manufacturer Stothert & Pitt, part of the international Clarke Chapman group, to supply a turnkey solution for the delivery of a new dockside crane for the UK Ministry of Defence’s Ernesettle Ammunition berth in Plymouth.

The first vessel in over a decade to collect scrap metal from the UK Port of Wisbech has been loaded in an operation made possible by upgraded handling facilities. The cargo ship Brandaris sailed to the Norfolk port from Scotland with a cargo of sugar beet then collected the scrap metal shipment which was arranged by local waste management specialists Glazewing.
Vuossari Port Orders Kalmar Cranes

Cargo handling equipment supplierKalmar has won an order from Finnsteve Oy Ab for four ship to shore (STS) cranes to be used at the new Vuossari Port in Finland. The cranes ill be capable of servicing post-Panamax vessels in twin lift operation, while preparations will be made or future tandem lift operations. The cranes will be up and running by November 2008.
