    Asteam Gets More New Tugs in Australia and Reinforcements in the UK

     Adsteam Marine has added several new tugs to its fleet in Australia in recent months and is taking steps to reinforce its towage operations in Britain. 

    A New Career Beckons for Goliath

    One of the most well known British owned coastal and contracting tugs operating in UK and European waters has been sold. The Spithead Trading Company of Braintree, Essex, has sold the tug ‘Goliath’ to Griffin Towage and Marine of Dorking in Surrey, increasing the fleet of this growing company to four vessels.   

    Northeast Boat Builder Launches Support Mini-Tug

    Alnmaritec, specialists in the design and construction of aluminium workboats in Alnwick, Northumberland UK has announced the successful completion of the first vessel it has built since the company came under new ownership in June 2006. The Tender to Seacor Express was launched and completed owners sea trials on the River Tyne in October, right on schedule and exactly 18 weeks after the order was placed.   

    Astilleros Armon Building More New Tugs for Fairplay Towage

    Hamburg based Fairplay Towage has ordered two more tugs from Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Armon in order to expand its current fleet. In the autumn of 2005 Fairplay and its associate company URS of Belgium placed an order with Armon for four compact stern drive tugs of 5,027bhp with a bollard pull of 80 tons.

    Following the successful introduction of the anchor handling tugs Tempest and Typhoon, Netherlands based International Transport Contractors (ITC) has decided to strengthen their position in the offshore support market with the purchase of two anchor handling tug supply vessels.  

    Salvors Prove Importance Yet Again

    Salvage and towage operators Multraship, working with Antwerp based URS Salvage & Maritime Contracting, have successfully completed two salvage operations in the River Scheldt over a period of less than 24 hours.  

    Busy Salvors See Out 2006

    It was a busy second half of 2006 forSvitzerWijsmuller Salvage BV, with operations in November alone including assistance for a standby/safety vessel following a collision to miles northwest of Terschelling and assistance for vessels involved in incidents in severe weather conditions.   

    Van der Wees Celebrate Centenary of Service

    On the 1st of January the Dutch transport contractors Van der Wees Watertransporten BV, well known for their extensive fleet of tugs and barges, celebrated 100 years of service to the marine industry. The company was founded in Delft in 1907 when the brothers Abraham and Nicolaas van der Wees started their company A. Van der Wees & Co. From those early days the firm grew steadily and built a reputation being capable, trustworthy and innovative.  

    Prevention is the Cure as Tsavliris Calls for ‘Liability Salvage’

    The principal of Piraeus based salvage operators Tsavliris has called on liability and property insurers as well as governments to adopt the concept of ‘liability salvage’, in which salvors are remunerated for preventing a liability from materialising.
