ECDIS Upgrade for Red Funnel
01 Apr 2007
UK based Red Funnel was the ‘original Isle of Wight ferry operator’, transporting passengers between Southampton and Cowes since 1861.
It now carries more than three million passengers and some 600,000 vehicles per year on a fleet of ro-ro ferries and high speed passenger catamarans.
Transas Marine (UK) Ltd and Red Funnel have recently entered in to an agreement to upgrade all their Transas Navi-Sailor 2500 systems to the latest Navi-Sailor 3000-I ECDIS. Red Funnel has been a Transas customer for nearly eight years and this latest upgrade reinforces their belief that modern and reliable electronic charting systems are an important tool for the safe navigation of their vessels in congested waters.
Once the upgrades are completed this month, all of the Red Funnel crew will receive training at the Transas Portsmouth office using their full mission bridge simulator. The training will cover a range of operational techniques that will increase safety onboard the vessels and enable safe passage between Southampton and the Isle of Wight through some of the busiest waters in Europe.
