Marine Firefighting for Turkey and Egypt

A new marine fire fighting system designed by Anglesey UK based company Marinex has won a deal to supply highspeed military patrol boats in Turkey.

The company has also signed substantial contracts to supply Egypt with fire fighting and fire suppression equipment for vessels servicing offshore rigs.

These deals, the company¹s first export contracts, were secured with support from the international business arm of the Welsh Assembly Government, International Business Wales (IBW), and has safeguarded staff positions at the Tynygongl plant.

The Solid Aerosol Generator system is an unique development in marine fire fighting in that it is non-pressurised, therefore requiring less time consuming and costly testing and maintenance than conventional high pressure systems. Contained within stainless steel housing, the product will not corrode or rust in a marine environment.

All Marinex products are certified to DNV standards, enabling them to meet stringent worldwide requirements. The product range includes fire fighting and suppression equipment, fire alarms and fire detection systems, and breathing apparatus.

‘When a fire breaks out on board a vessel at sea, help is rarely at hand, therefore it’s down to the crew to deal with the problem, said Marinex partner Peter Day. ‘Our equipment is designed to be safe, effective, and easy to use, and is specifically designed to suit a wide range of seagoing vessels.’

The company was originally known as Anglesey Fire Protection, and supplied fire safety products to shops, offices, factories, and leisure complexes, as well as to the maritime industry. The non-marine side of the business was sold so that the company could concentrate on developing innovative specialised equipment for boats and ships.

Marinex was founded in 2006. Much of the company’s R&D is carried out on its North Wales site.
