Hydrographic Survey by David Goodfellow

Anglo-French Contracts for Valeport

Hydrometric and oceanographic instrumentation specialists Valeport of Totnes have completed a major sound velocity equipment replacement and upgrade programme for the French Navy’s Hydrographic & Oceanographic Service (SHOM) fleet of survey vessels based in Brest.

Featuring inbuilt digital time-of-flight sound speed sensors with particularly high orders of accuracy, the Devon company’s profilers and associated hull mounted units are to be used for echosounder corrections as well as calibration of multibeam sounder arrays.

Meanwhile, the company has also received orders worth over £250,000 from Ashtead Technology Rentals for further SV probes and sensors as well as tide gauges, current meters and other sensors. The systems, which are being shipped to Ashtead Technology’s bases in Aberdeen, Houston and Singapore, will be primarily used to support client ROV and underwater construction operations. They include Valeport’s latest intelligent miniIPS titanium housed pressure sensor which utilises a temperature compensated piezo-resistive transducer for precise measurements in real-time.
