DP World to Upgrade Terminal in Fujairah
01 Aug 2007
Port operator DP World reportedly plans to invest in the Port of Fujairah to make it suitable for larger container ships.
The company was awarded a 30 year concession to operate and develop the container terminal in Fujairah in 2005.
‘Even if the capacity is there the port is not able to receive big ships because the port was built a long time ago’, said Mohammad Al Muallem, DP World UAE managing director.
A team of experts is looking at possible expansion plans that will be carried out by 2010. Dredging will be carried out to increase the draft from 15m to 16m or 17m.
