Seawork Review

Redbay’s Quality Confirmed at Seawork

From its base in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, Redbay Boats has built a reputation for producing extremely rugged and seaworthy craft. Its range of Stormforce RIBs, ranging in size from 6.1m to 11m, has been developed, tested and proven in the treacherous waters between the Cushendall factory and Scotland’s Western Isles.

Redbay Boats brought a Stormforce 11 Cabin RIB to Seawork 2007, where it was kept busy providing viewings and demonstration runs for many Seawork visitors and fellow exhibitors.

The vessel on show at Seawork is the 38th 11m model to be built by Redbay and was delivered after the show to Arramore Charters, which will operate it as a passenger ferry between the island of Arramore and Donegal. Given Passenger Boat Class P3 coding for 12 passengers and two crew by the Irish Department of Marine, the boat will provide a scheduled service for residents of the island as well as day trippers.

The Stormforce 11 Cabin RIB features Redbay’s innovative hardnose design, which will provide superior rough weather capabilities during the regular six mile crossings. The hardnose also plays an important role in protecting the tubes, mitigating the risk of detubing in a heavy sea.

The vessel’s Explorer-X cabin in the result of several years of development and, in passenger RIB configuration, provides high levels of comfort and safety. Power is supplied by twin Yamaha ME422 marine diesels, each producing 245hp and driving Yamaha Hydradrive stern drive units to deliver a top speed of 40 knots and cruising at 28 knots.

Redbay Boats used the occasion of Seawork 2007 to accept their registration certificate to BS EN ISO 9001:2000, the internationally recognised requirements standard for Quality Management Systems. The certificate of registration is applicable to ‘the design, manufacture, sales and repair of rigid inflatable boats for commercial and pleasure use.’

Coinciding with Redbay Boats’ 30th anniversary, the event was a milestone for the company, establishing it as one of the few RIB manufacturers in the UK to have achieved ISO9001 registration.
