Seawork Delivers for Baltec Werft
01 Aug 2007
Each year at Seawork there are first time exhibitors who discover the incomparable value of the show for opening new markets, expanding existing ones, and building valuable contacts.
One such exhibitor at Seawork 2007 was Lubeck based Baltec Werft.
The German boat builder specialises in the construction of lightweight catamaran workboats and fast ferries using their innovative Epoxy Sandwich Technology, which results in an extremely sturdy construction which nonetheless results in a hull some 40 to 50% lighter than a similar aluminium hull. The advantage translates to a significant cut in fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions and lower maintenance costs.
These were all points which Baltec Werft wished to convey to the new audience Seawork would provide, and they were not disappointed. ‘We were very interested to get in direct dialogue with the ship owners and explain the advantages with this building method, said the yard’s owner Stefan Schulz. ‘We were indeed overwhelmed by the interest and subsequent contacts we established during Seawork. There were facts we were able to discuss and explain in direct dialogue at the Seawork exhibition, and we were very happy to receive the positive response from the visitors and other exhibitors.’
Baltec Werft was able to establish positive relationships with a couple of British yards and is now in the process of developing the opportunities provided. Baltec was also able to establish Jeff Weber of Harwich as their UK representative.
‘We find the British market extremely important and we would like to be able to follow it very closely and render the best support for the development of new projects’, continued Mr Schulz. He stressed that Baltec is a very flexible shipyard with an in-house design team which will work to develop correct solutions to match the needs of any workboat operator.
