Dutch RIBs Ride Wind of Change
01 Aug 2007
Based in IJmuiden on Holland’s west coast, TP Marine BV specialises in building high speed RIBs of aluminium and composite construction whilst also maintaining a successful repair and maintenance capability.
The latest delivery from the yard is the first of four new new 11m combined guard boat/passenger craft for UK based owner WindCat Workboats Ltd.
The composite deep ‘V’ hull design features a wheelhouse superstructure containing seating for 8 passengers, with two cabin doors providing direct access to the bow and aft deck area.
Behind the cabin superstructure is an open aft deck with dedicated access to liferafts and engine room. A large and low stern ramp makes retrieving persons in MOB situations easy, while similar but smaller front steps in the bow allows for simple and quick embarkation and disembarkation of passengers. A custom designed fender system by Hippo Marine is mounted to protect the craft during boarding actions.
The vessel is powered by a pair of Volvo’s latest D6 series engines coupled to stern drives with duo props, providing a maximum speed of 42 knots and a loaded cruising speed of 38 knots at reduced power output. Total fuel capacity is 1,000 litres, allowing for long operational periods between refuellings.
Classified by the MCA and conforming with Cat 2, TP Marine’s latest craft is an intelligent and well thought out design that will be a practical, economical and efficient craft for its new owners.
