New Amphibious Weed Cutting Boat

A revolutionary new weed cutting boat, supplied by specialist marine plant rental company Land & Water, is set to radically improve the long associated problems of weed cutting and clearing on the UK’s waterways.

The Amphibious Weed Cuting Boat delivers a low wash solution for environmentally sensitive maintenance of waterways.

Sourced in response to a request from the Environment Agency, the Amphibious Weed Cutting Boat uses a unique tracked propulsion system to move it along a river with minimal disturbance to materials on the bed.

Research has shown that the propeller wash on traditional weed cutting boats can cause silt from the river or lake bed to mix in suspension. When in suspension, previously inert micro organisms come to life and place increased demands on oxygen levels in the water.

The Amphibious Weed Cutting Boat not only creates minimal disturbance to the river or lake bed, but the action of the tracking actually re-oxygenates the water by up to 100% whilst it works, thereby improving the habitat for fish and other aquatic creatures.

The tracking also gives it maneuverability on water similar to that of a tracked excavator on land. It can turn on its own radius and operate in any depth of water or soft terrain without any risk of becoming stuck. It is also able to track from water to land, negating the need for complicated lifting and launching.

Richard Maclean from Land & Water said, ‘The Amphibious Weed Cutting Boat is a brilliant solution to a problem faced by waterways up and down the British Isles. It has been on hire with the Environment Agency and in our opinion it’s the most efficient weed cutting system on the market.’ Land & Water has been so impressed with the machine that they have another ordered.

The Amphibious Weed Cutting Boat uses biodegradable oil as standard and has a safe fuelling system which avoids the risk of spillage and pollution. The machine is powered by a low emission three cylinder diesel engine, making it sympathetic to the environment it operates in.
