FerryGreen Way to Save the Planet
30 Jul 2008
The first ferry ticket agency in the UK to address the environmental issues associated with travel by sea has launched a website at which customers have the opportunity to offset carbon emissions during the booking process.
Ferry travellers wishing to also save the planet can visit www.FerryGreen.com, a pioneering venture by Dover based Travel Market Ltd, which also operates the independent travel club to France, The Ferry Travel Club, and www.FerryCheap.com. FerryGreen.com has been launched in association with the voluntary carbon offset company CO2balance.com.
Customers booking via FerryGreen.com, which offers travel with all of the UK’s major ferry companies, select their preferred ferry route and operator; enter date and sailing times, with details of car and passengers; then tick ‘Make This Booking Green’. The Ferry Carbon Calculator then calculates the CO2 emissions and customers can choose from three options as to where they would like the carbon emission amount to be offset. These take the form of planting a tree, supporting energy efficiency, or investing in the European Union Emission Trading Scheme.
Ferry travel is already regarded throughout the travel industry as an increasingly viable alternative to flying. The launch of FerryGreen.com adds further credibility to the environmentally friendly image of travel by sea, with additional advantages such as the avoidance of increased air travel taxes, fuel surcharges, and lengthy delays with airport security and foreign immigration.
All online bookings via FerryGreen.com are based on ticket-less travel, meaning customers need not waste paper by printing out tickets.
