Solutions for Breath Testing at Sea
30 Jul 2008
Any vessel that might sail into waters governed by the USA and its territories is required to meet new US Coast Guard Marine Casualties and Investigation Regulations which have recently been amended to cover drugs and alcohol testing.
Ideal for use in accordance with these regulations, the Draeger Alsotest 6510 and 6810 provide a fast, accurate and easy solution to the problems sometimes associated with evidential breath testing.
A push button will manually actuate a remote solenoid operated gas valve, if one is established in the system. If the solenoid valve is in the open position (or not fitted), the presence of gas is detected continuously. If the valve is closed, detection will take place intermittently.
The gas detector is provided with three switched connections rated a one amp each. In the event of an alarm, these will actuate (if fitted) an extraction ventilator, an external alarm or horn, and a solenoid operated gas valve. The extraction ventilator can also be operated manually by means of a fan button.
One sensor is supplied as standard but a second one may be fitted as an option for gas detection in another part of the boat.
The Vetus gas detector is suitable for both 12V and 24V electrical systems. Should the battery voltage become too low, there is an optical and acoustical warning for this situation also.
