‘Centaur II’ is now in service in the Polish port of Gdynia.

The new ASD tug ‘Centaur II’ has now entered service with Gdynia Harbour Tug Services in Poland. Completed in April by Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa SA, the 31.2m long tug has a beam of 10.5m and draft of 4.8m.

Two Caterpillar 3512B diesels generate a total of 3,872 bhp to drive a pair of Schottel SRP 1212 propulsion units.

Centaur II has a bollard pull of 47 tons and a maximum speed of 14 knots. Rolls-Royce reports that their order book for offshore vessels, including anchor handling tugs, currently stands at its highest ever level of 100, providing work for shipyards around the world.

The total number of vessels ordered, under construction or in service since the well known UT-Design concept was first developed more than 30 years ago, is 570.
