Government Praise for Buoys from Brazil

After years of frustration in dealing with deteriorating pylons, Trinidad’s Port of Spain has purchased a total of 15 Tideland lighted buoys.

Tideland Signal will be supplying a combination of SB-285P, SB-138P and SB-98P buoys.

The majority of the buoys will be outfitted with Tideland’s MLED-120SC self contained marine lanterns. The larger entrance buoys will be outfitted with Tideland’s MaxLED-200 marine lanterns for long range visibility.

The inclusion of Tideland’s Satellite Remote Monitoring System on each buoy enables the Port to reduce their maintenance costs and ensure continuous operation. The cost effective system allows the user to check the status of their lantern and to determine if their buoys are on station via any internet browser.

Moving south, the Port Authority of Paranagua and Antonina have purchased 22 SB-138P buoys fitted with the MLED-120SC self contained lanterns. The Paranaguan terminals are the first in Brazil to implement the use of this type of aids to navigation equipment, with their first order of buoys going to Tideland in 2002. The latest shipment of SAB-138Ps and MLED-120SCs are in the main access channel between Paranagua and the tip of Felix in Antonina.

In a recent visit to the Port, Brazilian Ministers Dilma Roussef and Bernadine Pablo recognised the Port of Paranagua as an important player in the country’s economic growth and considered it to be an excellent example of modern management and operations.

Port Authority Superintendent Eduardo Requiao proudly presented the new model for Public Ports adopted for the Parana estate, which includes references to the Tideland buoys and lanterns.
