Shoalbuster Naming Ceremony at Seawork
30 Jul 2008
A number of meetings followed in Holland and Scotland and now, one year later, the brand new Shoalbuster 2609 ‘Marineco Toomai’ will be named in a ceremony on board at Seawork 2007.
The event will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 13 June at 4:00, with Marineco Toomai berthed on the Seawork floating pontoon. Those in attendance may wish to linger for the free to attend Seawork 10th Anniversary Barbecue, which begins on the quayside at 5:30.
Marineco Toomai benefits from a number of small and clever evolutionary details, including extra windows in the wheelhouse at both sides on floor level which greatly improve the Captain’s view of the side decks whilst manoeuvring. The crew will enjoy a TV in every cabin and the void space below the accommodation will be fitted with extensive storage racks.
The vessel is classed by Bureau Veritas for unrestricted navigation and an unmanned engine room whilst also complying with the MCA Workboat Code for category 1.
Propulsive power is supplied by twin Caterpillar 3508B TA/C marine diesels driving 1,800mm diameter propellers in nozzles for an anticipated bollard pull of 28 tons and a free running speed of 11.5 knots. For ease of manoeuvring, there is a 150hp hydraulically driven bow thruster fitted.
Deck equipment includes a Heila HLRM-140-4-SL crane fitted next to the winch on a pedestal which has a maximum capacity of 9.3 tons at an outreach of 12.11m.The crane can be controlled either from the pedestal itself or remotely from the aft deck. The Ridderinkhof hydraulic winch has a pulling power of 40 tons and a holding power of 50 tons. A heavy stern roller is fitted with a 50 SWL forward and hydraulic towing pins are fitted on the aft deck.
The wheelhouse is fitted out to Damen’s usual high standard with the full package of navigation and communication equipment required for regulatory compliances.
Following its three days on the Seawork pontoon, Marineco Toomai will sail for the Middle East to start work on its first contract.
