With global demand for tugs and offshore vessels at an all time high, a growing number of yards in the Far East are looking to expand their export markets further around the world.

One such yard is the Guangzhou Panyu Lingshan Shipyard at the mouth of the Pearl River Delta in the heartland of industrialised China.

The yard’s latest delivery for a Singaporean client is the 45m AHTSO ‘Lewek Roller’, designed by the Singapore based naval architects Khiam Chuan Marine and classed by Bureau Veritas to A1 standards for unrestricted navigation. The 700 dwt vessel has a beam of 12.8m and a maximum draft of 3.8m.

Lewek Roller is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516-HP marine diesels rated at 1,490 kW driving fixed pitch propellers in Kort nozzles through Reintjes LAF673 gearboxes. The combination is good for a bollard pull of 50 tons ahead and a loaded speed of 13 knots during trials.

The main anchor handling winch is a twin drum model with a pulling capacity of 80 tons on the first layer and a total brake load of 150 tons. The winch is backed up by twin lugger winches and capstans, electro-hydraulic pins and shark jaws, and a 200 ton SWL stern roller.

Auxiliary capabilities include external firefighting via twin monitors mounted above the bridge and oil spill combat with a dispersant capacity of 5m3.
