Aberdeenshire Support for RNLI
01 Mar 2007
The donation was the result of the Council promoting the charity through its 2006 Christmas card initiative.
Decked out in full RNLI kit, Alan Campbell was given a tour by RNLI coxswain Andy Brown of both the lifeboat station and the new Tamar lifeboat ‘The Misses Robertson of Kintail’. He was also taken by RNLI crew on a demonstration run around the bay.
The new £2.5m Tamar was funded by The Robertson Trust and has been based at Peterhead since April 2006. The vessel was the first of its kind in Scotland and is the most technologically advanced lifeboat ever designed by the RNLI.
RNLI fundraising manager for Grampian and Highlands, Anne Scott thanked Aberdeenshire Council for their support, saying, ‘As a charity we rely on voluntary contributions and legacies from individuals and organisations to support the work we do. Without support we wouldn’t be able to continue to save lives at an average of 23 every day.’
‘This donation will go towards the North East crew training appeal which aims to raise funds to train our crews at lifeboat stations across the North East of Scotland.’
