Mustang/Camarc Formalise Collaboration

A close working relationship has been in place between naval architects Camarc and Wales based boat builder Mustang Marine for some time.

The most recent products of this collaboration have been the 19.55m fast pilot cutters for the ports of Milford Haven and Tianjin in China. Delivery of the latter boat is reported elsewhere in this issue.

The companies have now reached agreement for Mustang Marine to have exclusive use of the Camarc range of steel and aluminium pilot vessel designs in the UK and Ireland. This modern fleet of designs covers over 24 vessels with lengths between 11m and 23m, with waterjet or conventional propeller propulsion.

In cases where prospective owners would prefer to appoint Camarc as a designer and project manager, and in competitive situations where Mustang may be bidding to construct an alternative design, then each company will revert to their traditional naval architect/boat builder roles.

Kevin Lewis, Mustang Marine’s managing director said, ‘This agreement is a logical step in the relationship (between Camarc and Mustang) to assure the best future for both companies in the UK and Ireland’. Camarc’s Alastair Cameron added, ‘At Camarc we have been pleased to be a part of the ongoing development of Mustang Marine. Watching them successfully take up the challenge of these sophisticated, large pilot cutters has been very rewarding for both of us. We are now looking forward to continuing success in the future.’

This relationship follows the arrangement between Incat Crowther and Mustang announced last month and demonstrates the boat builder’s growing ambition to be identified as the leading UK based yard.
