AES 2007: The Vision Redrawn

A Call for Papers has been published for AES 2007, a milestone event marketing its 10th anniversary. With the theme ‘A Vision Redrawn’ it is aimed at recording the experience, recognising the ambition and refining the balance of the development of the All-Electric Ship.

Organised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and supported by Société de l’Electricité, de l’Electronique, et des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication (SEE), AES 2007 will be held at the Royal College of Physicians Conference Centre, London on 25-26 September 2007.

This is the sixth event in the series, which alternates between the UK and France.

‘The ten years since the first event in the series was staged in 1997 have seen many significant steps in the evolution of the All-Electric Ship, says Keith Read CBE, chief executive of IMarEST. ‘Electric ships encompass electric propulsion and integrated power generators together with advanced electrical techniques for achieving efficient ship operations. Many surface ships are now using AES technologies including: warships, naval auxiliaries, cruise lingers, LNG carriers, shuttle tankers, FPSOs, offshore platforms and support vessels.

‘This year’s conference theme highlights the fact that there is much that can be shared here in London in 2007 and much yet to be achieved. We are looking forward to a highly stimulating event attended by commercial and military ship operators, designers and shipbuilders, classification societies, machinery and equipment manufacturers, universities and other organisations; and that will move ambition, knowledge and technical ability along in concert towards a common goal.’

The closing date for receipt of 250-500 word synopses is 30 March. AES 2007 conference themes include Operation and Support; Efficinecy, Emissions and Environmental Compliance; System Analysis; Platform Management, Control and Automation; Integrated and Auxiliary Electric Propulsion Systems; and New Technologies.

A supporting exhibition will be held in conjunction with the conference enabling companies to exhibit their latest products and services. Further information from
