Onboard Doppler Docking System Launched

SAM Electronics has introduced SAM 4683, a new IMO and DNV compliant dual-axis doppler log for provision of onboard docking information by calculating a vessel’s transversal speeds at bow and stern. Information is displayed continuously on a large high resolution graphic LCD together with all other relevant navigation data.

The system's transducer comprises three 270 kHz hydroacoustic elements for the dual-axis log function and can be connected to a transceiver electronics cabinet over distances of up to 40m. Connection to its operating unit is via a serial RS-422 datalink over possible distances up to 200m. Transceiver power options are 230V AC or 24V DC.

The associated operator unit features a graphic dot matrix colour TFT LCD adjustable display supported by a keyboard and a rotating encoder. With user selectable display layouts of adjustable intensity, the unit is normally flush mounted but can also be optionally supplied with brackets for bulkhead mounting.

The 4683 incorporates extensive interface facilities, including those for NMEA 0183 input and output, pulses, analogue interfaces, alarm relay and a remote display. It has an overall accuracy of 0.2% of speed or 0.2 knots, whichever is greater.
