Jobs to Go in MCA Reshuffle

Coastguard services and emergency response capability will not be affected by the loss of up to 25% of staff at Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) headquarters in Southampton UK. That was the Agency's promise after new chief executive Peter Cardy told staff last month of plans to bring all 'customer facing' functions within the Department for Transport under one roof in Swansea.

A number of senior officials in Southampton are expected to lose their jobs as the Agency restructures and reduces its internal directorates from five to three. Those directorates that will continue are maritime services, corporate support, and finance and governance.

Job losses are still under consideration and it is hoped that the offer of enhanced redundancy packages will avoid compulsory redundancies.

It is planned that the new structure will be in place by 1 April 2008.
