Dubai Yard Launches Dredging MPV

'DN201', a 26m multi-purpose Anchor Handling Vessel constructed by Dubai based Albwardy Marine Engineering has been commissioned from Drydocks World (ex Dubai Ship Dock Yard) for Jan De Nul subsidiary Codralux S.A., which will deploy the vessel for their regional marine civil construction projects.
Bureau Veritas in Dubai was appointed as Classification Society, monitoring the entire building process and bestowed BV class with notification of Anchor Handling Tug I +HULL *MACH Coastal Area.Two Caterpillar 3412 TI main engines rated at 720hp each combine with Reintjes WAF 364L, 4.92:1 reduction gearboxes and fixed propellers in Kort nozzles provide an estimated speed of 8.5 knots and a bollard pull of 15 tons.
The vessel’s barge shaped hull and deck equipment illustrate the principals’ original idea to build a multi-purpose and stable vessel capable of carrying out heavy duty construction operations in shallow water. The hydraulic Heila HLRM 170-4S crane installed forward on the port side of the deck area has a lifting capacity of 28/10 tons at 5.7/14m radius. The deck strength under the 170 m2 wooden sheeted deck area is 15tons/m2.. A Norcrane single drum 60 ton winch is positioned aft. Bow and a stern rollers of 3m length provide the vessel with a wide range of capabilities in terms of lifting, recovering, holding and dropping different construction related materials or equipment. The vessel can accommodate a total of eight persons.
Established in 1978, Albwardy Marine Engineering is the marine division of the Albwardy group of companies. The company’s headquarters and main yard are in Dubai, with workshops in Fujairah and Salalah (Oman). Since 1997, the company has been involved with shipbuilding activities by setting up an in-house design office and by purposely employing six naval architects. Currently, Albwardy Marine Engineering employs a workforce of over 800 site workers.
Jan De Nul's projects in a region which currently occupies much of the world's dredging fleet include Palm Island II, extension of the LNG Port at Ras Laffan in Qatar and the deepening of the port basin and development of Jebel Ali Container Terminal.
