'We're Here' is There at Lymington

Isle of Wight based catamaran builders Cheetah Marine are well known for their multi-purpose workboats, designed and built to the specialised requirements of each client. Builds to date include hydrographic survey, harbour patrol, commercial fishing, passenger/load carrying and diving workboats.
One of the most recent of the popular 7.9m series is ‘We’re Here’, purchased by the Royal Limington Yacht Club (RLYC) following detailed design discussions between client and builder.
The Club's main requirement was to set and retrieve racing marks, but its old launch doubled up as a towing vessel, a water taxi and a committee boat. The Club needed the flexibility to fulfill these roles in the Western Solent and Christchurch Bay, a stretch of water well known for the short seas thrown up in wind against tide situations. Another top priority was for a boat that will give many years of reliable service, built to high standards with modern materials.
‘The Cheetah came out as the closest fit to our operating and financial requirements, said John Priestly of RLYC. ‘We developed both operating and financial evaluation models and evaluated a shortlist of contenders through both factory visits and sea trials. The Cheetah came out tops in both categories.' Meeting client requirements, We’re Here has a wide range of uses. The principle function is to act as a committee boat for sailing races and to deploy and recover race marker buoys both within the Solent and further afield in Christchurch Bay.
‘We’re Here’ is the first Cheetah to be fitted with two of the new Honda 90hp outboards, with the promise of excellent fuel economy marking the next step in a successful Cheetah - Honda partnership. Cheetah Marine has shortened the conventional long wheelhouse by half a metre to provide more internal cover than the standard cab and to increase the available deck space. The cabin interior features starboard side suspension helm seat in front of a worktop with storage below. On the port side is a bench seat with additional open stowage below. A work surface can be folded down to double up as a chart table at window height. Access through the dash leads to a Jabsco marine toilet.
RLYC specified two strips of chunky three inch D-fender. The lowest is fitted at pontoon height and allows the boat to sit next to the pontoon whilst wheelchairs can be pushed easily aboard or boat gear loaded onto the deck through a side door. A 5.5 hp portable power pack, winch and capstan hauler enables deployment and retrieval of course buoys, again through the side door. We’re Here has been coded to MCA category 4, 20 miles from a safe haven with 8 passengers. As well as the usual set of safety rails and stainless steel work, Cheetah has manufactured a removable tow post, which fits into the aft deck.
