J P Knight (Caledonian) Ltd has taken delivery of all three of their recent purchases from Japan. Based in Invergordon, the company now operates a four tug fleet comprising the original purpose built ASD tug 'Kincraig' and the new acquisitions 'Kintore', 'Keverne' and 'Kindeace'. All of the latter are modern Japanese built ASDs in almost new condition. (A more complete description of this considerably enhanced fleet will appear in a later issue).

'Kindeace' is one of a trio of new additions to the JP Knight (Caledonian) fleet.

Atlantic Towing Ltd of Halifax, Canada has sold the deepsea and coastal tug 'Atlantic Hickory'  (formerly 'Irving Miami 95') to Island Tug & Barge of Vancouver. The 880grt, 7,200 bhp tug has been renamed 'Pacific Hickory' and will join the fleet of its new owners working with oil barges, general cargo, RoRo and container barges in the Pacific northwest.

KOTUG has taken a first step towards pollution control in its tug fleet by moving to sulphur free fuel. From October 2007 Argos Oil will supply sulphur free (EN 590) bunker fuels to Kotug's tugboats in the Port of Rotterdam. The Rijnmond Area is one of the most polluted regions in the Netherlands and has resulted in the launch of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative. Ard-Jan Kooren, CEO of Kotug, reconfirms the importance of sulphur free bunker fuels for his tugboat fleet, saying, 'We take our responsibility for a better environment, the well being of our employees and the community seriously. Emissions could decrease even more through the creation of extra lay-by berths and shore power connections in the Port of Rotterdam.'

Smit Harbour Towage Liverpool has sold the Voith Schneider tractor 'Gladstone' to Iskes & Son Tug Services of Ijmuiden. Gladstone was originally introduced to Liverpool by the now defunct Alexandra Towing Company Ltd to reinforce the tug fleet in 1994. The tug has a bollard pull of 30 tons and was built in 1977 for Hapag Lloyd as the 'Hercules'. On delivery to Ijmuiden the vessel was re-registered in its original name.
