Electric Anchor Windlass for 'Joides Resolution' Refit

Seattle USA based Markey Machinery has supplied a the Type WES-32 electric anchor windlass to the Transocean owned drill ship 'Joides Resolution' as part of a major overhaul and conversion the vessel is undergoing in Singapore. 

The works will enable the vessel to serve the international community with a state of the art drilling research platform. Markey's Type WES-32 will help aid infrastructure upgrades to the vessel.

The Markey Type WES-32 Electric Anchor Windlass is Panama Canal rated. It features double clutched and braked wild cats with auxiliary double warping heads symmetrically laid out on either side of the speed reducer. The five pocket wild cats are designed for two inch, grade 3, stud-link anchor chain.

A single 60 horsepower electric motor with close-coupled failsafe brake gives the wildcat its 52,000 lbs load and 30 feet per minute speed rating when operated in low range. When operated in high range the two-speed motor enables the 24 inch diameter heads to retrieve lines at speeds of 60 feet per minute. Manual band type friction brakes with hand wheel operators carry 190,800 lbs minimum ratings.

The custom windlass was supplied with two push button operator's stations mounted in a stainless steel enclosure rated to NEMA-4X for on deck and wheelhouse mounting. An across the line type motor starter housed in a NEMA-12 rated enclosure will be installed below decks. Shipped with the winch is a basic package of spare parts. With it’s ABS reviewed design and marine grade paint system, Markey’s WES-32 Electric Anchor Windlass is suitable for long term service on a variety of ocean going vessels that require reliable deck machinery.
