New Klein Sidescan Sonar

US subsea search and survey systems specialists L-3 Klein, well known in Europe for their series of sidescan sonars, have introduced a new portable digital model designed for search and rescue missions.

The 3900 features a dual frequency capability, with 445 kHz providing excellent range and resolution and 900 kHz for higher resolution of identified targets.

The system is configured for single person operation from a small boat in shallow waters and is available complete with a splashproof Transceiver Processing Unit (TPU), a custom configured laptop and 50m of lightweight tow cable.

Towfish electronics are housed in a stainless steel body with a phosphorescent finish for simple underwater identification.

Klein says it is now taking orders for the new system, which is said to be available at an extremely competitive price.
