The new S-VDR features a flash disk embedded operating system for optimal reliability and is user configurable via a computer terminal. Its Protected Data Unit (PDU) has a standard recording capacity of 2GB, which can be downloaded via an Ethernet link in fifteen minutes. Data can be retained for more than ten minutes without power supply.

The unit also has a port for AIS data, a pre-assembled 16 channel Main Unit (MU) which provides for nine microphone and three VHF input interfaces together with up to four video source inputs for radar and ECDIS or CCTV.

Customers can choose a complete assembly with an extensive range of options which include a playback station, a data acquisition unit for conversion of analogue and digital signals for output to the main unit, and a remote control unit with multiple facilities. There is also a special float-free protected data unit with an extended memory capacity of 8GB.
