The debate focussed on how AMSI members could support the energy providers who, in many cases, were facing the challenge of the near shore marine environment with little or no understanding of the potential problems they may face in the location of their new facilities. The speakers imparted valuable information on the market and discussed the many areas by which members could assist the energy sector achieve its objective of increasing the proportion of energy from sustainable sources. 

AMSI chairman Paul Ridout said after the event, 'It was very clear that the skills available in our membership in areas such as measuring tidal flows, advising on foundations and wave movements could save the energy generation industry much time and money in the location and operation of their facilities. From a marine science business perspective there is a major market worth in excess of £2 billion and AMSI will be seeking to assist members be part of it.'
