Modular Oil Spill Recovery System
01 Oct 2007
Finnish designers and developers of oil spill recovery technology, the Lamor Corporation AB, has built some 600 advancing recovery systems for vessels. The systems have been tailor made to fit each vessel and comprise several different components.
The individual designs of the systems have often required complicated planning processes for the shipyards and the supplier.
Lamor is now introducing a new concept, the oil recovery block system, which is a standardized modular design with an optimized layout. The Lamor oil recovery block is due to be capacity and EX Zone 1 certified in the future.
As it is a standardized system, it offers several benefits for the customer. Project budgeting becomes easier due to fixed pricing, the design work needed is minimized and construction time is saved at the yard. As the system consists of only one unit, there are also logistical benefits. It is a ready to use factory tested unit and the standardized construction also offers operational safety benefits on board the vessel. Lamor is currently working on integrated oil recovery block solutions for several projects.
Meanwhile, Lamor continues to win orders for its established systems and signed a $3.3m deal this summer with the Ports and Shipping Organisation of Iran for the manufacture and supply of six 9m oil/debris recovery boats.
The aluminium boats will feature the proven Lamor brush chain bow collector system, Lamor GT A 20 pump and portable dispersant system, and integral recovered oil storage tanks. A shallow draft hull enables operation close to shore.
Power will be provided by a single Deutz marine engine with twin screw hydraulic propulsion.
