01 Oct 2007
ØstensjØ Group member Edda Accommodation has placed an order for the offshore industry’s first purpose built ‘flotel’. ‘Edda TBN’ will be an Offshore Accommodation Vessel for a total of 600 personnel.
Measuring 130m LOA and with a beam of 27m, Edda TBN will be equipped with a telescopic gangway installed on the 1,400m3 deck, with one heave compensated knuckle boom crane and two marine deck cranes. The large free deck area can be used in connection with offshore construction work or as a storage area.
The DP3 equipped vessel’s mechanical emphasis will be on low fuel consumption and low emissions. Five Voith Schneider propellers will provide a very accurate and stable positioning system. Also featured will be a helicopter deck with refuelling plant, executive cabins, offices, conference rooms, satellite communication, internet café, wireless networking, television, fitness rooms, sauna, swimming pool, other recreation areas and a cinema.
As well as providing accommodation in remote areas of the world, the new vessel can be utilised to transport personnel to and from offshore installations. If used as accommodation for workers on land, the number of beds can be increased to about 1,000. The shipyard in which the NOK 850m first of type vessel will be built is due to be announced this month.
