Wounded Warriors Sail the Channel
01 Sep 2007
Departing from the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre at Gosport, participants will sail to France before arriving at the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes, on 19 September. The channel sailing trip is just one of the many activities organised annually by BLESMA to assist with rehabilitation as well as building confidence and self esteem.
BLESMA is a national charity specifically for limbless serving and ex-service men and women, their dependants and in particular their widows. The objects of the Association are to promote the welfare and well being of all those who have lost a limb or limbs, or the use of limbs, or one or both eyes as a result of service to their country. Today, BLESMA is aiding several thousand amputees of all ages, from those who served during WWII, through Korea, peace keeping operations worldwide, Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands and more recent conflicts.
