Marine Firefighting for Turkey and Egypt

A new marine fire fighting system designed by Anglesey based company Marinex, has won a five figure deal to supply high speed military patrol boats in Turkey.

The company has also signed substantial contracts to supply Egypt with fire fighting and fire suppression equipment for vessels servicing offshore rigs.

The company's first export contracts were secured with support from the international business arm of the Welsh Assembly Government, International Business Wales (IBW), and has safeguarded staff positions at the Tynygongl plant.

The Solid Aerosol Generator system is an unique development in marine fire fighting in that it is non-pressurised, therefore requiring less time consuming and costly testing and maintenance than conventional high pressure systems. Contained within stainless steel housing, the product will not corrode or rust in a marine environment.

Founded last year, Marinex was originally known as Anglesey Fire Protection, and supplied fire safety products to shops, offices, factories, and leisure complexes, as well as to the maritime industry. The non-marine side of the business was sold so that the company could concentrate on developing innovative specialised equipment for boats and ships.

IBW has helped the company to rapidly establish solid markets in both Turkey and Egypt via its contacts on the ground. Marinex plans to work in partnership with IBW to exploit new international trade prospects in the near future.
