'Terra Marique' Assists RNLI Again
01 Apr 2008
During late March heavy weather the Dunbar lifeboat, the Sir Ronald Pechell, broke its moorings while berthed at Torness power station on the east coast of Scotland and was swept onto nearby rocks, causing extensive damage to the hull.
At the time, Wynn's unique self-propelled, semi-submersible specialist project cargo barge Terra Marique was enroute to the British Energy owned power station to load a 272 ton item of power generation equipment.
Robert Wynn & Sons were contacted by the RNLI, which was surprised but pleased to learn that the Terra Marique was already on its way to the very same location. It was agreed that Wynn would take the damaged lifeboat to Hartlepool, where the Damen built Terra Marique was due to offload its project cargo.
The Sir Ronald Pechell had already been lifted onto the quayside and was loaded onto a trailer. Following the loading of the power generation equipment the damaged lifeboat was rolled on to the Terra Marique for the 16 hour voyage to Hartlepool, where both cargoes were successfully offloaded at a berth within the Able shipyard.
Robert Wynn & Sons director Chris Johnson said, 'We were very pleased to be able to assist the RNLI again. Obviously we had not expected to be working with them again so soon but by coincidence we were enroute to Torness when the incident happened.
'We have again been able to demonstrate the versatility of the Terra Marique, as we have now loaded two lifeboats in two months via two different means, the first was floated in and the second was rolled on'
