Eighteen die on the Neftegaz 67

The Ukrainian anchor handling tug Neftegaz 67 capsized and sank on 23 March after colliding with after colliding with the panamax bulk carrier, Yao Hai, in Hong Kong waters.

Eighteen of the crew of twenty six, all Ukrainians, were trapped and in spite of strenuous efforts died in the accident.

The tug is reported to be lying upside down in 35m of water. The Chinese cargo ship involved remained afloat and none of the crew were injured. Neftegaz 67 is one of a large series of 81m, 7,200hp, Polish built sister ships originally operated under the Russian flag.
