Mobile Dry Dock Called to South Korea
04 Apr 2008
Hydrex have only developed the innovative technology over the last couple of years but it is proving itself valuable in cases where the only other alternative would be to place the ship in dry dock, taking it out of commission for an unacceptable length of time.
The second phase of the operation began when the divers entered the Mobdock and examined the seals. This established that the leak was limited to a single oil seal which had been running without sufficient lubricant.
The liner and the seal's rings were cleaned, the new seal was brought into the Mobdock, and bonded into position. When the bonding was complete, the old seal was removed and the unit reassembled, ready for a leakage test.
Less then 48 hours after arriving on location the diving team, working around the clock in shifts to minimise the disruption to the ship's schedule, had successfully performed the necessary repair, leaving the customer and the yard duly impressed.
