Gemini go outboard with new GFO
25 Jul 2008
Unlike the rest of the Gemini range, the GFO is designed for outboard engines and has instantly drawn interest from fishermen concerned with the increased materials costs of building larger vessels and the soaring cost of diesel.
The GFO design is based on Gemini's successful GF10, GF11 and GF12m ranges and moulded in one piece as are the company's entire range. The GFO has an impressive beam of 3.6m and a useful draft of only 0.20m.
Gemini will produce the GFO in a range of variants, including models tailored for commercial fishing, private angling, charter fishing and hydro survey. The builder has already received enquiries from charter angling skippers wishing to downsize and reduce running costs without compromising their earning potential. Gemini estimates the build and running costs of its new GFO to be half of that for an equivalent inboard powered monohull.
Gemini is a specialist builder of catamarans only and has built over 80 vessels since being founded by MD Andrew Craig in 1997. As the strength of the pound falls against the euro, Gemini is receiving far more enquiries and orders from European markets.
