Seazone regional workshops
01 Aug 2008
They will review local government roles within coastal zone and marine environments, focusing on requirements for marine spatial information and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in support of project planning and implementation.
Staging of the events follows a Local Government survey commissioned by SeaZone and undertaken with officers involved in marine and coastal protection related activities drawn from 92 English coastal authorities. Results of the survey, now available from the company in report form, will be examined as part of the workshops.
SeaZone says that the events will be of particular interest to local government officials and associated stakeholders such as Sea Fisheries Committees, Wildlife Trusts, Coast/Estuary Forums, Emergency Services and Central Government Marine and Fisheries Agencies. Proceedings will include updates on the Digital National Framework, the Atlantis Water Management Initiative and key Government initiatives promoting best practice use of geographic information.
Sponsored by Ordnance Survey, British Geological Survey and the UKHO, the free one day events are scheduled for Cambridge, Pulborough, Exeter, Hull, Newcastle and Lancaster.
