Breakdown assistance extended to workboats
01 Aug 2008
The product extension means that businesses operating vessels such as coastal workboats can now benefit from the company's service, which provides comprehensive warranty cover and a 24/7 breakdown assistance service.
In addition to cover for engine and associated equipment, ShoreGuard also offers customers 24/7 assistance via a UK based operations centre, which provides expert advice and help from qualified skippers and marine engineers, in the event of a mechanical failure. If emergency repairs are not possible, the customer's boat can be recovered to the nearest appropriate repair facility and where needed, the boat can be repatriated back to the home port if a passage is interrupted by mechanical failure which cannot be remedied locally.
The news that ShoreGuard has extended its service to commercial operators follows the company's announcement earlier this year that it had developed and enhanced its warranty product following the appointment of new underwriter, Brit Assurance. The partnership has also enabled ShoreGuard to offer and extend its services to EU customers in addition to existing UK customers.
ShoreGuard works closely with the Coastguard and liaises regularly with the MCA to refine incident control procedures. The company is keen to emphasise that it does not exist to replace the important role of this service, but is there to assist its members with the mechanical failure of their craft, handle their warranty claims, repatriate them and their craft and provide expert advice.
